How do you represent a modern nation-state 250 years in age when your ancestors inhabited the continent for 2,400 generations before the Dutch, French, and, later, British navies arrived and claimed the land as their own? And how, since then, have your people related to the settler-colonial government that was subsequently established? Presented in the national pavilion of Australia at the 60th Venice Biennale, Archie Moore’s installation kith and kin (2024) reframed a people’s history not through a state’s formation but as a network of social relations and encounters with that apparatus.
