Across a practice spanning 30-plus years, NS Harsha’s stories of everyday minutiae have reflected worldly injustices and utopian hopes more potently than any heroic epic. “Camel and the tent times,” his solo exhibition at Victoria Miro gallery, was no different. The 13 recent paintings on view revolve around an allegory wherein a merchant finds himself shivering in the desert because his camel has taken his spot in his tent. The wayward animal had first sought permission to nudge its nose in, then gradually, in came its head, neck, legs, and body. Ostensibly a warning that minor issues can grow into catastrophes, the parable unfolds throughout Harsha’s canvases in more ways than one.
