For the Busan Biennale 2024, titled “Seeing in the Dark,” co-curators Vera Mey and Philippe Pirotte explored alternative ideas of darkness and enlightenment, drawing on concepts from Buddhism to the histories of “pirate utopias”—alternative, anarchist communities that predate European modernity.
