At the 60th Venice Biennale, Aboriginal artist Archie Moore from the Australia Pavilion, and the Māori, all-female Mataaho Collective were chosen as the Golden Lion winners for Best National Participation and Best Participant, respectively.

Lifetime awards included the Japan Art Association’s 35th Praemium Imperiale, which announced the recipients in five categories, including Sophie Calle (France) for painting and Doris Salcedo (Colombia) for sculpture. In the US, modernist sculptor Ruth Asawa (1926–2013) was posthumously awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Joe Biden in October. In Japan, Korean conceptual artist Kimsooja was honored with the 34th Fukuoka Prize 2024 in the Arts and Culture category.
