The Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) has tapped Cecilia Alemani to curate the 15th Taipei Biennial, which is slated to open in 2027. The project marks the Italian curator’s first project in Asia.

Born in 1977 in Milan and now based in New York, Alemani is a seasoned curator whose cross-cultural practice focuses on marginalized voices and alternative notions of identity and memory. She is director and chief curator of High Line Art in New York, where she has helmed the public art program, including the annual High Line Plinth commissions, since 2011. Over the past decade, she has overseen major international art exhibitions, including the 59th Venice Biennale (2022) and the inaugural Art Basel Cities: Buenos Aires (2018) in Argentina. She curated the Italian pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017 and most recently organized the 12th SITE Santa Fe International (2025) in New Mexico.

Alemani expressed her gratitude over the appointment in a press release, stating, “In our current global climate, platforms like the Taipei Biennial . . . are vital spaces for creative expression and cultural resilience: they remind us of the power of art to foster dialogue and discussion at a critical historical crossroads. . .  I am eager to collaborate with the artistic community here to create an exhibition that resonates deeply across borders.”

TFAM director Li-Chen Loh added, “We are confident Cecilia Alemani’s curatorial lens will provide a transfixing framework that honors Taipei’s distinct landscape while engaging our local audience in vital conversations with global masters.”
