Hong Kong’s Para Site is departing its location in Quarry Bay, where it has been based for a decade. On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, the nonprofit will embark on what it describes as a “nomadic” program that will unfold across the city throughout 2027.

In June, Para Site began its experimental, collaborative program “Elsewhere in Me” across Hong Kong, which will continue to showcase new commissions by local and international figures such as Sydney-based artist Justin Talplacido Shoulder (Phasmahammer) in November and Hong Kong-based artist Yim Sui Fong in December. The initiative part will continue into the new year while Para Site furnishes its new venue, which is yet to be announced.

Para Site was founded in 1996 by Hong Kong artists Patrick Lee, Leung Chi-wo, Phoebe Man Ching-ying, Sara Wong Chi-hang, Leung Mee-ping, Tsang Tak-ping, and Lisa Cheung as an alternative platform for nurturing discourse on contemporary art and collaborations between curators and creatives. Originally based in Sheung Wan, Para Site relocated to Quarry Bay in 2015.

James Taylor-Foster, who joined the institution as its executive director in March, told South China Morning Post that the year-long program is an opportunity to “try things out”: new ideas, partnerships, and relationships. “All this will inform the kind of space that we end up moving into—a new anchor point for Para Site in Hong Kong.”
