New Currents: Yi To

When planning a new sculpture or painting, Yi To begins by thinking about the “temperature” she wants to achieve—that is to say, she mulls over the interface between humans, nature, and technology to create something that appears suspended in deep time and space. The Hong Kong-born, London-based artist is driven by her curiosity about the evolution of our strange existence, and how such musings are instrumentalized through the human body. In doing so, she immerses herself in philosophy, science fiction, biology, and literature to examine the unknown territories of the universe, as well as our own physicality.
