UCCA to Launch New Outpost in Guangzhou
UCCA Center for Contemporary Art has announced plans to launch a new venue in Guangzhou, marking the Beijing-headquartered institution’s first outpost in South China. Named UCCA OneM Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA OneM), the space is being developed in partnership with the local nonprofit OneM Center for Contemporary Art.
Rooted in the Greater Bay Area and informed by an international perspective, the new venue aims to contribute to Guangzhou’s evolving cultural landscape and foster exchanges across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. UCCA will lead the platform’s curatorial vision, branding, and research, while exhibitions and public programs will be jointly developed with OneM. Selected projects will also travel to, or be co-organized with, other UCCA branches.
UCCA OneM will occupy the current premises of OneM in the Pazhou Central Business District Cluster. Completed in 2025 and conceived under the theme “Dance of the Pearl River,” the complex is distinguished by a Guinness World Record-recognized central steel staircase: a red, ribbon-like spiral rising more than 31 meters.
In a press release, UCCA and UCCA Foundation chief executive Kong Lingyi described Guangzhou as “a city defined by its energy and openness,” adding that the institution looks forward to working with local communities and practitioners “to bring the best in art to a wider audience.”
UCCA OneM is set to open in 2027.
