Jeamin Cha Wins 21st Hermès Foundation Missulsang
The Hermès Foundation has named Korean media artist Jeamin Cha as the recipient of the 21st Missulsang. Established in 2000, the biannual prize supports emerging artists in South Korea. As part of the award, Cha will receive KRW 30 million (USD 200,000) and production support for a forthcoming solo exhibition at the Atelier Hermès in Seoul, scheduled to open in May 2027.
Working across film, installation, performance, and writing, Cha is known for her video-based practice that centers marginalized voices and expands the documentary form. Her projects often involve years of interviews and field research, examining how political, cultural, and social structures shape individual lives within urban environments.
The laureate was selected by an international jury comprising Hye-kyung Ki, former director of the Busan Museum of Art; Binna Choi, artistic director of the Korean pavilion for the 2026 Venice Biennale; artist Seo-young Jung; Isabella Bertolotti, director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Lyon; and Reiko Setsuda, director of Le Forum at Maison Hermès Ginza in Tokyo.
