Highlights from Asia Now Paris 2017

Asia Now, the boutique art fair founded by Alexandra Fain in 2015, descended on Paris for the third time this October. Taking place at the same time as FIAC—a super-sized global fair at the city’s Grand Palais—the comparatively intimate event saw around 30 galleries occupy a classically Parisian and somewhat labyrinthine building.
A particular highlight of Asia Now Paris 2017 was the Korean Platform put together by independent curator Joanne Kim. While previous iterations have focused on other countries in the Asian region, this year a spotlight was shone on video installations, sculptures and paintings from the Korean peninsula, provided by galleries such as The Columns, Kukje and Galerie Maria Lund. There was also a program of performances by Zhao Duan and Jooyoung Kim, and talks such as the excellently titled “Dansaekhwa, c’est quoi?” with art critic Henri-Francois Debailleux and artist Lee Bae.
