On June 7, the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) in Canberra announced an indefinite postponement of the exhibition “Ngura Pulka – Epic Country” after press reports raised serious allegations about the authenticity of artworks from the Aboriginal-run APY Art Centre Collective (APYACC), which represents over 500 artists from Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands. Launched in April, an independent inquiry led by experts in copyright law, indigenous art, and museum ethics has yet to reach its conclusions, while the South Australia government, which funds the APYACC, is leading a separate inquiry.
